"Although, I usually have a high suspicion for RBD just from the clinical history, most sleep specialists recommend an overnight sleep study because other disorders can masquerade as RBD.  There is a phenomenon called pseudo-RBD which is caused by obstructive sleep apnea .  OSA tends to be worse in REM and when the patient has an awakening out of REM due to apnea, he can act out his dreams, and the story can be very similar to RBD.   This pseudo-RBD is eliminated when we treat the sleep apnea.   Also, there is a small chance that the person is having nocturnal seizures so the sleep study is important to rule that out.
Although it is sobering to get this diagnosis because of the connection to neurodegenerative disease, the good news is:  1. Not everyone gets Parkinson’s disease; 2. RBD is usually very well treated with low dose clonazepam.  Clonazepam is a benzodiazepine which acts as a muscle relaxant as well as a sedative and anti-anxiety agent.
Charlie is now on low dose clonazepam with no further symptoms, and he is very happy to be back in bed with his wife of 50+ years."

"Regardless of your gender, when a couple is dealing with mismatched libidos, the worst thing the partner with more desire can do is to give up on sex. Like Sherlock Holmes, the partner with more desire has to engage in some forensic analysis to uncover the clues and causes, and then take action to bring sex back into the relationship. From foreplay to fantasy, to enhancing communication and the overall quality of the relationship, there’s a lot you can do to foster a satisfying sex life. So start talking with each other, share a fantasy or two, and take a few aspirin for that “headache.” Your relationship will thank you.And if you need a little extra help getting sexually creative, check out the Good in Bed Guide to 52 Weeks of Amazing Sex."

Interviewing Marco

On February 22, 2011, I interviewed Marco, my classmate, he answered five questions. All of the five questions involved sharing of music and software on line. His responses were that while he does not think it should be a crime (only his singing should be a crime) he feels that the punishment should be a warning on the first time and on the next time to have the laptop taken away. When asked about purchasing fake CDs that are being sold for a lower price Marco stated that he felt that the original CDs are too expensive and that buying counterfeit copies are justified by the price. On the subject of software piracy Marco stated that it is a crime to copy software and sell stating that the programmer put time and effort into the creation of the program and he should be paid. Even though Marco feels that lending out software CDs to his friends is wrong he values their friendship enough where he will lend out the CDs even though he does feel it is wrong.

News from Brazil (from CNN)

Fire hits Rio's Samba City  (present facts and statistics)

(CNN) -- A fire in Rio de Janeiro on Monday claimed a large portion of an area known as Samba City, where the floats and decorations for the city's carnival celebration are created, CNN affiliate Record TV reported.
Firefighters were fighting the blaze, which spread to several warehouses in the carnival district. The warehouses were stocked with flammable materials that are used in Rio's famous carnival celebration. Video footage showed thick black and gray smoke rising out of the large complex. Flames could be seen on some of the upper floors through the windows.
There was almost nothing left in the affected warehouses, Record TV reported. At least six floats were destroyed, the network reported.
Record TV said that area residents suspect that the fire started in a classroom where officials were hosting a class for entrepreneurial women, and that it then spread to three samba schools.
This year's carnival is slated to begin March 5.

Ronaldo Luís Nazário de Lima
The Brazilian soccer legend, known simply as Ronaldo, is expected to announce his retirement from the sport Monday, according to media reports.
"I wanted to continue, but I can't," the Corinthians player said in Sunday's Estado de São Paulo newspaper. "I think of a play, but I can't execute as I'd like. It's time. But it was so damn beautiful."
At age 34,  the three-time FIFA player of the year and two-time World Cup champion may be seen as an old man in today's sport, but in his day he was all kinds of awesome.

Behaviors my parents taught me

In my childhood, my parents taught me many things such as respecting elders, honoring my word, to fulfill my commitments and schedules, to honor my ancestors and the Japanese culture, among others.

I remember that when older people arrived in our home, we must listen their words, opinions, and advice, always respect and attention or we would be punished with harsh words for weeks, that was not a smart thing to do.

About being on time, so I can remember clearly there were many punishments. Often in the morning, I was always lazy to wake up, my parents saying and arguing with me, you want to sleep late, but must take responsibility for reaching agreement on time, if you want to sleep more, go to bed early. And about schedules or appointments we had to be in the place at least 10 minutes before
the scheduled time, it was difficult to learn, many reprimands were heard.

My parents rewarded me with praise and showing us how much they were proud of me, that was enough for me, i loved to see in their eyes the pride they felt to me.

"Pao de Queijo" (Brazilian Cheese Bread)

First of all I will give the list of ingredients: 1 cup of water, 1 cup of milk, 1 / 2 cup of oil, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 pack of tapioca starch (450 g), 2 to 3 eggs, 200 g of grated Parmesan cheese.

Now the first thing to do is bring to boil in a big pan, water, milk, oil and salt then remove the pan from the heat and add the tapioca starch. Mix well with a wooden spoon and let it cool down, now put the mixture in a bowl, add eggs and knead well, add grated cheese and keep kneading dough until smooth, roll 1 tablespoon of mixture into small balls.

Tip: Grease your hands with oil before making the balls. Wash your hands once in a while if necessary, place the balls on a baking tray greased with oil or lined with baking paper, bake the cheese rolls in hot oven (350 degrees) for about 20 minutes or until golden brown, put the cheese rolls in a basket and serve them warm.

This recipe makes about 70 small cheese rolls.
Tapioca starch can be found in Asian grocery stores. It comes in a clear plastic bag and the standard pack has 450 grams.
Knead the dough (usually Brazilians by hand. It's really hard work. I prefer to use the mixer to knead the dough).
"cheese bread"can be an appetizer or served the snack.

Have fun...Pao de queijo is delicious.

Letter 3

Every time your 3 year-old son does that you should talk with him eye-to-eye in a very firm and stern manner and tell him that that was not good behavior and that you want him to stop throwing stuff on people because this is not nice and the people don't like.  But this is something you must be sure to do each time he behaves this way. When he develops the association between hitting and throwing things and being placed on time outs the behavior will diminish in frequency. Expect that the improvement will occur gradually, not dramatically or overnight.

Sandra's Graduation

The Sandra Suguino's Graduation, my sister, was in november 27, 2010 at Citibank Hall Theater in Rio de Janeiro. A wonderful prom and the whole family present, the teachers, principals and dean were there, all of them were wearing their vestments. After the surrender of certificates and congratulations, we went out to celebrate in a wonderful restaurant, the family and only a few but dear friends were there.

Although all the happiness of the moment, the whole family knew about all of the hard times that Sandra  had faced during the college. The problems began in early college when our dear father passed away then when her fiance, aged 32, passed away one month before their marriage. Despite all the difficulties, Sandra has been a good student with excellent grades and always participating in all activities of the university. For our surprise Sandra was the valedictorian of the class and the dean Gave her medal for best student of the year.

In november 27, 2010 was a wonderful date and now Sandra is a dentist as the whole family. We gave her a dentist ring and also a office.

The Family's Structure

The American family structure has changed greatly in the last 20 years, which was often average family consist of a father (working outside of home), mother (at  home taking care of  children) and children, all of them living in the suburbs. Nowadays this kind of family has became rare, but theses changes have been happened not only in the United States, you can see it also in other countries.
Other forms of the families unit have became fairly common like, two-career families, single parent families, stepfamilies...Although the employment of married woman increased the income that not bring happiness because the most of men want their wives to work out and also do all the houseworks including the children.
Other kind of family is growing up, the single-parent families most of them (82%) headed by women.
After high rates of divorce and remarriage, stepfamilies become common, the most of these families are consist of mother, her kids and stepfathers. All of these different kinds of families have been  increasing in numbers and each one with their own problems, not only in the United States also in Brazil.

In the last 30 years family's structures have been changing in Brazil but big changes happened in the big cities, like Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. In the past, the avarage structures were the father, mother and 3 children, in the small cities and suburbs you can see it frequently, but in the big cities we can see families like in the USA, also homossexual families.

To complete this research, there is little difference in family structures between Brazil and the United States. The only significant difference is that in some cities in the U.S. have allowed official marriage with matrimonial rights between people of the same sex, but that is totally banned in Brazil.
